This study aimed to analyze the actions taken by health management in coping with the oil disaster on the coast of Pernambuco in 2019. This is an exploratory study of the case study type on the actions taken by health management in the oil disaster. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with sixteen managers from the municipal and state health departments of Pernambuco. Collective Subject Discourse Analysis was carried out, identifying five thematic axes: managers' perception of the impacts of the oil spill in the territory, actions developed to mitigate the impacts of the disaster, difficulties faced by managers in the disaster mitigation process, evaluation of health management actions in the context of the disaster and preparation for future disasters. Fragilities in health management were identified in disaster mitigation actions, resulting from the lack of preparation of services and health professionals. The lack of instruments and the disarticulation between the federal entities intensified the difficulties, generating disastrous situations in the territory. This points to the need to build instruments that guide such actions in these situations, so that activities are carried out more efficiently and effectively.
