This paper has as its object of study the struggle of Brazilian prostitutes for the recognition of sexual work as a profession. Through a bibliographic review, it presents the formation of the Prostitutes Movement in Brazil and its claims, seeks to define what sex work is and, at least, show the disagreements over their claims with the Legislative Power. At the end, it is concluded that the obstacles to the recognition of the profession by the Brazilian State are related to the stigma that marks sex workers.
