Physical education and training in public health: necessary displacements to act in the Brazilian Unified Health System

Abstract

This essay aims to reflect on the importance of public health in the context of training in the field of physical education, the relations with social demands, the  expansion of perspectives of physical education in the health field, and the role of curricula in this process. It  is structured in four sections: in the first, the historical  paths, the area of physical education and health  training were contextualized; in the second one, the  displacements that physical education needs to make  towards the field of public health and the Unified Health System (SUS) were discussed; the third one  questions the relationship between curriculum,  university and social reproduction that can occur  when the knowledge and practices of public health  are uncritically inserted; and, finally, the fourth and  last section presents brief final considerations in order to point out some directions on training in this area.
