Indigenous territories and socio-environmental determination of health: discussing exposure by pesticides

The Brazilian savannah and Amazon region concentrate a significant part of the national production of agricultural commodities, disputing spaces with Indigenous Lands and areas environmental preservation. Imposition of pesticides, fires and deforestation are consequences of agribusiness and put pressure on indigenous territories that have their way of life and health affected. The present descriptive case study, based on documentary research, was based on agricultural GDP, planted area of commodities, estimated use of pesticides, deforestation and fires, fine particulate matter, diseases of the respiratory system, nutritional and metabolic endocrine diseases . The data were grouped according to the ZSEE of state in 12 regions. Groups of socio-environmental determinants related to the effects of the agribusiness production processes were defined in the social spaces and health of the populations of the indigenous lands Wawi, Pareci, Parque Indígena do Xingu and Marãiwatsédé. The results point to greater vulnerabilities in regions of intense agricultural production, due to the imposition of pesticides sprayed on crops and the opening of new areas for monoculture plantations and pastures around the Indigenous Lands, showing the role of Collective Health in the face of the negative effects of agribusiness. on the various expressions of health of indigenous peoples.
