Perception of residents of an urban occupation about ‘empowerment’ in health

Population clusters in urban occupations reveal inequalities social conditions, unfavorable housing and health conditions, with negative impacts on quality of life. In this challenging context, given the relationship between housing, life and health, it is essential to legitimize the social rights and duties of the individuals. The objective of this study was to analyze the perception of urban dwellers 'empowerment' in health. Exploratory research with a qualitative approach on the perception of urban dwellers Eliana Silva II(ES), in Belo Horizonte/MG on the 'empowerment' in health. Data collection occurred after approval in the Research Ethics Committees. We used a semi-structured interview. The sample totaled nine participants residing in the occupation, with more than 18 years of age and at least one year of residence. The analysis, the light of the Bardin, showed two thematic categories: Health and social determination: recognizing influences on people's health; Owning her own history: the struggle movement in search of the guarantee of the rights to health. So that needs of occupational dwellers are on the priority agenda of the government it is necessary to mobilize. The struggle for conquest and guarantee of rights is fundamental.
