Abstract

The urbanization process has significant effects on the local microclimate, leading heat islands effect and impairment of indoor thermal conditions. Vegetated modular systems arise as an alternative in the thermal stress attenuation in buildings, promoting better environmental health conditions, and eventually dismissing artificial cooling. The evaluation of the vegetated systems in thermal stress attenuation is performed comparing a vegetated and a non-vegetated prototype. The vegetation plays an important role in thermal stress attenuation, improving the indoor environmental health conditions, and attenuating health related risks.
