Epidemiological and spatial analysis of cases of gestational and congenital syphilis

The present study aims to analyze the epidemiological profile and spatial distribution of gestational and congenital syphilis cases in the city of Caxias, Maranhão. This is a descriptive-exploratory, retrospective, quantitative-based research conducted in Caxias, Maranhão. The data were collected from the Notification of Injury Information System on the gestational and congenital syphilis notification sheets between 2013 to 2017. For the preparation of the maps, the data were collected using GPS and transferred to the Quantum GIS, version 1.7. 0, where they were georeferenced in the cartographic base of the municipality. There were 149 cases of gestational syphilis, which worsened, showing a growth trend of 72% in the period. Prevalence in young women, brown women, low schooling and housewife. The prenatal evaluation showed a predominance of the diagnosis in the third gestational trimester. Congenital syphilis showed a reduction in detection rate of 32%. In the spatial analysis, the predominance of the cases in the West and East zones of the municipality was identified. Thus, it was revealed the fragility in the correct management of the infection in the municipality, becoming necessary the qualification of the professionals of the municipality for the correct management of the syphilis.
