Abstract

International and national surveys point to the expressive increase of women with problematic alcoholic beverages, which consequently damages their social, mental and biological life. The objective of this study was to estimate patterns of alcohol consumption among women enrolled in the Family Health Units in Recife. It is an exploratory descriptive study with a quantitative approach and comes from an original survey through a defined sample of 864 women aged 18 years or older. He used a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Test to Identify Problems Related to the Use of Alcohol - AUDIT. The results indicate that: 58% without risk do not drink, 23.75% low risk, 11.92% average risk and 3% high risk and 3% probable dependence both predominantly among young women in the age group of 18 to 39 years, who do not work and have primary education. It is concluded that women need to be considered in planning and directing preventive strategies focused on female drinking, especially in Primary Health Care.
